In 1984, the Paralympics were held under the patronage of the IOC for the first time, so the organizers were allowed to use the Olympic Games. But there were problems with the licenses and thus with the marketing of the Olympic rings, which is why the Paralympics were no longer provided with the Olympic rings from 1988.
