Original pennant of the "Friendship Games" (Jeux de l’Amitié) inscribed "Jeux d´Abidjan 1961" (flocked inscription on rear) and and a printed logo and the inscription "Cote d´Ivoire 1961" (Ivory Coast). Silk pennant with gold brocade fringes, velvet border and plastic pole. 39 x 30 cm. The "Jeux de l’Amitié" took place in various countriesin West Africa. The programme was similar to the programme of the Olympic Games. They were the first large African sport events that had participants from various countries. In 1963 they were open for women for the first time. Approximately 1,800 athletes participated in 1961. In 1965 they were replaced with the Pan African Championships which makes the "Jeux de l’Amitié" the forerunner of the Pan African Championships. Rare.
